Connect Claude

Requirements: Claude.ai on the web, or the Claude Desktop app (macOS / Windows). Custom connectors work on Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

  1. 1

    Open Connectors settings

Click your name or initials in the bottom-left corner, choose Settings, then open the Connectors tab. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector once in Admin settings → Connectors. Members then skip to step 4 and click Connect next to MedReveal.
  2. 2

    Add a custom connector

Scroll to the bottom of the connector list and click Add custom connector.
  3. 3

    Enter the connector details

Set Name to MedReveal and paste the URL below into Remote MCP server URL. Leave Advanced settings (OAuth Client ID / Secret) empty, because MedReveal registers Claude automatically. Click Add.
    Remote MCP server URL
    https://mcp.med-reveal.com/mcp
  4. 4

    Click Connect

MedReveal now appears in your connector list with a Custom label. Click Connect next to it.
  5. 5

Sign in to MedReveal and approve access

A browser window opens on med-reveal.com. Sign in with your MedReveal account (or create one). The consent screen shows which app is asking for access and the four read-only scopes — click Allow. The window closes and you return to your client.
  6. 6

Turn it on in a chat

Start a new chat, click the + button below the message box, open Connectors and make sure MedReveal is toggled on. The first time Claude uses a tool it asks for permission. Choose Allow always to skip future prompts.
Check it works: Ask “Which insurers does MedReveal have data for?” Claude should return the list of available insurers.

Using another client? Any MCP client that supports remote Streamable HTTP servers with OAuth works — point it at https://mcp.med-reveal.com/mcp. Menu names can differ slightly between client versions.

How connection works

Standard OAuth, nothing to configure

MedReveal follows the MCP authorization specification, so supported clients handle every step for you.

  1. 01

    Discover

Your client calls the server URL, receives a 401 and reads the OAuth protected-resource metadata pointing to med-reveal.com.

  2. 02

    Register

The client registers itself automatically through OAuth Dynamic Client Registration — no API key to copy.

  3. 03

    Sign in & consent

You sign in to MedReveal in your browser and approve the requested read scopes. PKCE protects the exchange.

  4. 04

    Call tools

The client receives a short-lived access token (5 min) and a refresh token (30 days). Every call is verified server-side.

Capabilities

What your assistant can do

Once connected, your assistant can look up and analyze MedReveal data for you. Access is read-only — it can never create, change or delete anything.

Negotiated rates

See what an insurer actually pays for any CPT/HCPCS code — down to a specific provider, organization or provider group.

“What does Aetna pay Mercy Hospital for 99214?”

Market benchmarks

Get the full rate spread for a code, insurer and state — median, percentiles and provider counts — and narrow it by specialty, city or county.

“Where does $95 for 99213 fall in the UHC Texas market?”

Medicare fee schedule

Current CMS Physician Fee Schedule rates by state and locality, for office and facility settings, to compare against commercial rates.

“Medicare rate for 27447 in California?”

Provider lookup

Find any provider or organization in the national NPI registry by number, name or state, with address and specialty.

“Find the NPI for Dr. Smith, cardiology, in Missouri.”

Organizations & TINs

Match a Tax ID to the organization behind it, or find an organization's TIN from its name — even with partial names.

“Which organization uses TIN 71-0415188?”

Specialties

Translate provider taxonomy codes into specialties, or find the right code for a specialty.

“What taxonomy code is used for family medicine?”

Example prompts

Ask in plain language — the assistant chains the right tools, resolving names to NPIs and TINs before pulling rates.

  • What is the median UnitedHealthcare rate for CPT 99213 in Texas, and how does it compare to Medicare?
  • Look up the NPI for a cardiologist named Smith in Missouri, then show their negotiated rates for 99214 with Aetna.
  • Find the TIN for Mayo Clinic and show its Blue Cross rates for knee replacement (27447).
  • Which insurers do you have data for in Missouri?
  • What specialty is taxonomy code 207Q00000X?

Security, data and limits

Secured access

RS256-signed tokens scoped to the MCP server, 5-minute access tokens and HTTPS everywhere. Revoke access any time by disconnecting the connector.

What we record

For each tool call we log your account, the tool, its parameters and the outcome — for usage limits, auditing and support. We don't receive your conversation with the assistant, only the tool calls it makes. No patient data (PHI) is requested or returned.

Plan-based access

Results follow your MedReveal subscription — the insurers, states and specialties on your plan. Up to 50 rows per call on Base and 500 on Premium.

Read our Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Security overview.

Help

Troubleshooting

Sign-in window never appears

Allow pop-ups for your AI client, then disconnect and reconnect the connector. In Claude Code, run /mcp and choose Authenticate again.

"Payer has no data" or empty results

Ask the assistant which insurers and states MedReveal covers first, then ask your question using one of them. Results are also limited to the insurers, states and specialties included in your MedReveal plan.

Connector stopped working after a while

Refresh tokens last 30 days. Reconnect the connector to sign in again. If you revoked access or changed plans, reconnecting picks up your new permissions.

Results are capped

Each call returns up to 50 rows on the Base plan and up to 500 rows on Premium. Narrow the request (state, NPI, TIN) for complete answers.
